The Church on the Olive Grove - Russell from $400

Property Overview

The little church was purchased and transported on the back of a truck from Kawakawa to Jo and Ross Blackman’s Olive Grove in Uruti Bay, Russell in December 2012.

It floated across the Opua inlet on the Russell car ferry much to the amazement of many locals who watched the church go cruising by.

It is an historic chapel constructed of solid kauri and was built for the Irish miners who came from Ireland to the Far North to mine coal in Kawakawa in 1860s. Built in 1875 it has many a tale to tell of past gatherings, wedding celebrations and more.

Now it is ready and waiting happily for its new life as a venue for wedding ceremonies and any other special occasions.

Not your normal church, not your normal venue

Let the fun begin….
